Ferrari 599 GTB - Performance

The new Ferrari 599 G.T.B. is the talk of the high performance motor world at the moment. Since its unveiling in Geneva, March 7 this year, much eulogising has been has been noted in many of the top motor magazines and television programmes. So what’s all the hype about? Is it really that good? and if so what makes it any different to all the other pretenders with the suffix Grand Tourisimo?

Well you don’t have to look too much further than the declared performance figures to get an idea of how this Italian stallion performs. With declared figures of 0 to 60 m.p.h. in just 3.6 seconds, 0 to 120 m.p.h in just over 10 seconds and a top speed of well in excess of 205 m.p.h. this is not a beast for the faint hearted. The roaring 5999c.c. V12 engine talks of racing pedigree and much of the Formula 1 technology so successful for the racing team over the past few years has found its way into this latest offering to provide electric acceleration super smooth but firm braking and seam free gear change that was only previously dreamed about.

The evolved Manettino steering wheel mounted computer “super brain” originally sported by the 1996 F1 vehicle controls the sequential gearbox, the traction control system, suspension control which senses and smoothes out the worst of road surfaces to provide pain free high speed cruising along with the engine management unit . This allows the driver instant dynamic response to the cars required optimum r.p.m. setting, providing maximum torque with minimum fuss throughout the range.

Add all this to the wonderful aerodynamic shape borrowed directly from modern light jet technology. Maximum air flow for minimum total drag is the order of the day, the reverse venturi shape in evidence providing maximum down force for road holding and cornering all help to add up to a performance vehicle that will be easy to love and hard to beat.
